PHILADELPHIA - Tamaqua pitcher Brett Kosciolek tossed three scoreless innings and struck out two to help Lehigh Valley defeat Tri/Cape 4-1 in Monday's semifinals of the 28th annual Carpenter Cup Classic at Citizens Bank Park.
Kosciolek was the winning pitcher for Lehigh Valley, which will face either Mercer County or Jersey Shore in today's championship game. Mercer County led Jersey Shore 2-1 in the seventh inning Monday before the game was suspended by rain. The game will be resumed at 9:30 a.m., with the title game to follow one hour after its conclusion.
Kosciolek has pitched in all three of Lehigh Valley's games of the 16-team, double-elimination tournament. He pitched one inning in an 11-3 win over Delaware South on June 17 and tossed three shutout innings with three strikeouts in Friday's 7-5 victory over Olympic/Colonial.
Monday, Kosciolek pitched the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, combining with ACC's Walt Roland and Parkland pitchers Tyler Duff and Gabe Mosser to keep Tri/Cape scoreless after the first frame.
Lehigh Valley is looking to win its second Carpenter Cup in three years, having captured the 2011 crown.
