HEGINS - Katie Rabuck tossed a no-hitter, striking out 10, and also helped herself at the plate with a 3-for-3 performance and two RBIs as Tri-Valley shut out Schuylkill Haven 11-0 on Tuesday afternoon in a Schuylkill League Division II contest.
Cat Troutman hit a two-run double in the third inning, and Taryn Wilson added a two-run triple in the fourth to bolster Tri-Valley's offense.
The Dawgs scored in all four innings they batted to steadily pull away.
Minersville 14 Lourdes 0
MINERSVILLE - Adrienne Kroznuskie hit a grand slam and finished with five RBIs as Minersville opened its season with a Division II shutout of Lourdes.
Grace Lescavage tossed a five-inning three-hitter while striking out 10 and walking one for the Battlin' Miners.
Mallory Ebert hit a two-run home run for the winners, while Lindsey Snyder added three hits and two RBIs. Jayme Kerrigan also had three hits for Minersville.
Peyton Klembara, Caity Funk and Angelique Pennypacker had Lourdes' hits.
Due to wet field conditions, Thursday's Minersville vs. Williams Valley game has been moved to Minersville. When the teams meet again April 30, Williams Valley will host Minersville.
Nativity 12 Weatherly 1
Jocelyn Holobetz pitched a two-hitter over five innings and Rachael Souchak tripled and singled to help Nativity to a season-opening, Division III triumph over Weatherly.
Souchak's triple led off Nativity's third inning, in which the host sent 10 batters to the plate and scored four runs. The winners then scored seven in the fourth to assure a victory by the 10-run rule.
Erin Luckenbill, who had two runs and two RBIs, and Allison Warren, who had three RBIs, each had two hits for Nativity.
Marian 7 Mahanoy Area 2
HOMETOWN - Bryianna Pearson went 3-for-4 with four RBIs to propel Marian to a Division III victory.
Leading 3-2 in the sixth inning, winning pitcher Bethany Shaud and Pearson rapped two-run singles during a four-run outburst.
In the circle, Shaud finished with a four-hitter and struck out nine.
Marcella Scheeler sparked the Golden Bears' offense, going 2-for-3, including a solo home run over the left-field fence in the first inning.
Tamaqua 15 Panther Valley 0
TAMAQUA - Shayna Dietrich hit a three-run triple and an RBI single and scored three runs as the Blue Raiders blanked the Panthers in a Division I contest.
Taylor Fritz added a two-run triple and scored twice, while Lynn Kistler singled twice, drove in two runs and scored three runs for Tamaqua.
Upper Dauphin 14 Newport 1
NEWPORT - Amber Bingaman tossed a five-inning no-hitter and struck out 10 as the Trojans thumped the Buffaloes in a Tri-Valley League contest. At the plate, she helped herself with a solo home run.
MiKayla Grow went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Kaytee Mattern added four RBIs for Upper Dauphin, which has won two in a row.
The Trojans' 11-run third inning settled the issue.
College Softball PSU-Hazleton sweeps PSU-Schuylkill
SCHUYLKILL HAVEN - Kait Boyer posted four hits for Penn State Schuylkill in its season-opening doubleheader loss to Penn State Hazleton.
Boyer had three of her team's 10 hits, including a double, in the opening game, in which Penn State Hazleton erased a 2-1 deficit with three runs in the third inning and pulled away for a 9-4 victory. The hosts were betrayed by five errors. Dominique Grasso added two hits for Penn State Schuylkill. Megan McHugh and Martina Herring each had two hits for the winners.
In the second game, Penn State Hazleton broke a 2-2 tie with nine runs in the fourth inning and won 12-2. McHugh added two more hits for the visitors to back winning pitcher Kayla Karchner's four-hitter.
