BLOOMSBURG - Schuylkill Haven graduate Vicki Davis added another honor to her long list of accolades Wednesday when she was named a second team Capital One Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
A secondary education/history major, Davis recently graduated from Bloomsburg University with a 3.74 grade-point average. She was eligible for consideration as a CoSIDA Academic All-American after being named a first-team All-District selection in late May.
The honor adds to Davis' exceptional senior campaign in which she qualified for nationals in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track and field, earned All-American honors in the steeplechase and 5,000 meters at the NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships, was the PSAC and regional runner-up in cross country and was named Bloomsburg's Senior Female Athlete of the Year and Senior Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
READING - Pitcher Jesse Biddle and infielders Jim Murphy and Albert Cartwright will represent the Reading Fightin Phils on the Eastern Division roster at the 2013 Eastern League All-Star Game to be held Wednesday, July 10, in New Britain.
Biddle, the Philadelphia Phillies' top pitching prospect according to Baseball America, is 3-7 with a 3.29 ERA in 14 starts this season. The 21-year-old left-hander ranks first in the Eastern League in strikeouts (91) and tied for first in complete games (2).
Murphy, a first baseman, is hitting .300 through 73 games with 15 doubles and 47 RBIs. He leads the Eastern League in homers (15) and total bases (144) and is among the league leaders in extra-base hits (32) and slugging percentage (.537).
Cartwright, a second baseman, had a 13-game hitting streak in April. He is hitting .250 with 14 extra-base hits in 65 games.
