ELIZABETHVILLE - When rivals Williams Valley and Upper Dauphin meet in any sport, expect plenty of fireworks.
Though the calendar says mid-May, the baseball teams put on an offensive display Monday afternoon that resembled a Fourth of July aerial show.
Ben Rautzahn hit a two-run home run in a nine-run third inning as the Vikings held off the Trojans 11-9 in a non-league game. The big inning included five walks and an error.
The teams combined for 20 runs on 24 hits.
Trailing 11-1, Upper Dauphin chipped away and cut the deficit to two runs in the bottom of the seventh. The Trojans had two runs in and the bases loaded with one out. The next batter hit a line drive to the second baseman, who caught the ball and stepped on the bag for a game-ending double play.
Rautzahn added an RBI single in the first inning for Williams Valley.
In the comeback, Upper Dauphin's Trey Campbell went 3-for-4 with four RBIs. He slugged a two-run homer in the fifth inning.
Tanner Miller and Mac Ney contributed three hits and one RBI apiece.
Shamokin 11 Mahanoy Area 6
MAHANOY CITY - Mason Evitts went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, but the Golden Bears dropped a non-league contest to the Indians.
Brian Miller added three hits for Mahanoy Area, which collected 14 hits. Brady Haupt, Thomas Campbell and Logan Mirolli each had two hits for Shamokin.
H.S. Softball Shenandoah Valley splits with Pius X
ROSETO - Skye Parker went a combined 4-for-5 with a double, a triple, five runs scored and five RBIs as the Blue Devils split a doubleheader.
Pius X won 12-11 and Shenandoah Valley won 13-12.

LYONS - Darlene Ruiz's single was Hamburg's only hit in a Berks League semifinal loss to the Bullets.
The Hawks used four walks in the third inning to score their run.
Weatherly 16 Millville 1
WEATHERLY - Jess Polchin fired a five-inning three-hitter and her team backed her with a 13-hit attack in Weatherly's non-league rout of Millville.
Kelly Parker pounded out a double and two singles for the Wreckers, while Dominique Adamczyk and Morgan Gower both singled twice.

LEWISBURG - Angelique Pennypacker went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI in the Red Raiders' non-league loss.
Karley Spangler clubbed a double and a triple for Lourdes.
