MIDDLEPORT - Southern Area and Schuylkill Valley have been chasing Pine Grove for the Schuylkill-Berks Legion League North Division lead all season.
In a battle of the two second-place teams Thursday night, one of them finally caught the Grovers.
Jeff Yordy hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning to lead the Falcons to a 7-2 win over the A's.
Yordy finished 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs.
The win ties Schuylkill Valley with Pine Grove for first place in the division, with the Grovers having a game in hand on the Falcons.
Having just five hits, Schuylkill Valley took advantage of three walks and three Southern Area errors while stealing five bases.
Danny Blugis went 2-for-3 to lead Southern Area.
Tamaqua 5 Pottsville 2
TAMAQUA - Adam Bates hit a three-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Blue Sox a win over the Lions in a Schuylkill-Berks Legion League North Division game.
Bates finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Matt Roberts also homered for Tamaqua, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
Trent Barnes and Matt McGarry both went 2-for-3 to lead Pottsville, which took a brief one-run lead in the top of the sixth before Tamaqua evened the score in the bottom half.
Dan Doyle homered for the Lions.
Little League District 24 11-12 Millersburg 11 Mahanoy City 1
MILLERSBURG - Four Millersburg players had two RBIs apiece to lead a balanced attack in a four-inning win over Mahanoy City in an 11-12 year-old District 24 Pool 2 game.
Ryley Novinger finished with two hits and two RBIs for Millersburg. Jordan Sass, Caden Feaster and Jayden Fulkroad each added two RBIs while Tate Etzweiler and Aiden Harman both doubled.
Harman and Etzweiler combined for a one-hitter.
Shenandoah 4 Pine Grove 0
SHENANDOAH - Jake Thomas pitched a complete-game one-hitter and struck out 14 batters to lead Shenandoah over Pine Grove/Tremont in a Pool 3 game.
Alex Donchak's two-run, two-out single in the fifth inning gave Shenandoah a 3-0 lead and allowed Thomas some breathing room.
The win improves Shenandoah to 2-0, tied with Pottsville Rotary for first place in Pool 3.
Pine Grove/Tremont starting pitcher Jacob Bohr had his team's only hit of the game.
9-10-year-olds Orwigsburg 15 Frackville 5
ORWIGSBURG - Andrew Rautzhan went 4-for-4 with a key three-run double as Orwigsburg outlasted Frackville in a five-inning Pool 1 game.
The game started Wednesday, but was suspended due to rain with Orwigsburg ahead 5-4 with one out in the bottom of the fourth. When play resumed Thursday, Orwigsburg erupted for five runs to take control, then added five more runs to end the game via the 10-run rule.
Connor Meisner, Mike Myro, Ryan Grace and Brogan Campbell each added two hits for Orwigsburg. Harrison Collins had two hits for Frackville, which led 3-0 in the second inning.
