Mike Sukeena tossed a three-hit shutout and struck out eight as Pottsville Rotary defeated cross-town rival Railway Park 4-0 on Wednesday in a District 24 Little League 9-10-year-old Tournament game shortened to five innings by lightning and rain.
Javon Jacoby had a pair of hits, including an RBI double, for Rotary, which improves to 2-0 in Pool 3 play. Darren Yost added a single and scored from second base on a sacrifice bunt.
Sukeena allowed three singles and walked just one. In its first two games, Rotary has outscored its opponents 16-1.
Rotary scored two more runs in the top of the sixth inning before rain halted play. The game reverts back to the last completed inning, which was the fifth.
Dylan Schreffler had two hits for Railway Park (0-1).
10-11-year-olds Schuylkill Haven 10 Railway Park 4
Jake Houtz was 3-for-3 with a double and a home run as Schuylkill Haven built a 10-4 lead over Railway Park before the game was suspended in the third inning. It will be resumed at 8 p.m. Saturday, after the SPN at Railway Park 11-12-year-old game.
Mason Irwin was also 3-for-3 for Haven with a double, while Ryan Sisko pitched three strong innings.
Kurt Sinclair hit a home run for Railway Park.
4 games suspended, another postponed
The Schuylkill Haven at Railway Park game wasn't the only one halted by Wednesday's storms that came through Schuylkill County.
In other District 24 Little League 9-10-year-old Tournament action, Orwigsburg leads Frackville 5-4 in the fourth inning, Ashland leads Upper Schuylkill 5-0 in the third and Minersville is ahead of Shenandoah 4-1 in the third.
Orwigsburg and Frackville will resume their game tonight at 8 p.m., after the Minersville at Orwigsburg 11-12-year-old game. The Ashland at Upper Schuylkill game will resume at 5:30 p.m. Friday in Ringtown.
The Cressona at Orwigsburg 10-11-year-old game was postponed by rain and will be played Tuesday, July 1, in Orwigsburg.
