Haven’s Blugis
selected to play
in Keystone Klash
Schuylkill Haven’s Danny Blugis was among the 40 players selected for the 2014 Big 26 Keystone Klash Baseball Classic scheduled for Saturday on Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in State College.
Blugis, who will be a senior this fall, will be a catcher for the Blue Team in the 2:10 p.m. doubleheader against the White Team. The event features rising juniors and seniors from across Pennsylvania selected after three days of tryouts.
Blugis was the starting catcher last spring for the District 11 Class A champion Hurricanes, hitting .329 (28-for-85) with 12 runs scored, five doubles and 22 RBIs.
The PA Blue Team is coached by Brian Fili of Strath Haven, Kevin Manero of North Penn and Bill Kane of Strath Haven. The PA White Team will be guided by Oley Valley’s Rick Harrison, Zach Milch of Wyomissing and Kevin Harris of North Penn.

Gaffney, Troutman
named All-America
by D3football.com
Blue Mountain graduate Frank Gaffney and Tri-Valley grad Tanner Troutman were named preseason All-Americans by D3football.com.
Gaffney, a senior linebacker at Lebanon Valley, was a D3football.com second-team All-American last year and was named to preseason lists by four other publications. He helped the Dutchmen go 8-3 and win the Middle Atlantic Conference title last season.
Troutman, a senior safety at Lycoming College, also has been named to preseason lists by four other publications.
Johns Hopkins
picked to win
Centennial title
LANCASTER — Five-time defending champion Johns Hopkins was named the preseason favorite to win the Centennial Conference football title it was announced at the conference’s annual media day Wednesday at Franklin & Marshall College.
The Blue Jays received 158 points and 14 first-place votes in a poll of conference coaches and sports information directors. Johns Hopkins went 10-1 overall and 9-0 in Centennial play last season.
Muhlenberg (147 votes, 6 first-place votes) was picked second, followed by Ursinus (125), Franklin & Marshall (111), Juniata (96), Gettysburg (80), Moravian (60), Dickinson (52), Susquehanna (42) and McDaniel (27).
Bucknell to host
Penn State in
men’s basketball
LEWISBURG — The Bucknell men’s basketball team will host Penn State for the first time since 1976 as part of a challenging 2014-15 non-league schedule, the school announced Wednesday.
The Nittany Lions will visit Sojka Pavilion on Friday, Nov. 28. It’s the first time Penn State played at Bucknell since Jan. 14, 1976, when Bucknell won 69-64.
Bucknell’s schedule also includes an appearance in the Legends Classic that will take the Bison on the road to Michigan, Villanova and Toledo. Bucknell will also travel to Wake Forest in December and host 2014 NCAA Tournament qualifiers Albany and Mt. St. Mary’s.
