Big Diamond reschedules race
to Friday night
FORESTVILLE — Big Diamond Speedway officials postponed Sunday’s scheduled Jack Rich Memorial Coal Cracker 72 racing program because of the forecast of rain and have rescheduled the event to 8:15 p.m. Friday.
Big Diamond originally postponed the race to tonight, but later moved the event to Friday. Track promoter Jake Smulley said the switch was made because of the response of race teams and fans, especially over social media, to the originally announced makeup date of 7:30 p.m. today.
“Because of children and adults returning to school and work early Tuesday morning, we felt honor-bound to reconsider our rain date as many drivers and families stated they would be negatively impacted by a late night Monday race,” Smulley said.
The Coal Cracker 72, which features a 72-lap race paying $10,000 to the winner, is the final program of Big Diamond’s season. The event includes the Coal Cracker 25 for roadrunners and fireworks.
Big Diamond has lost 10 race dates to rain this season while an 11th program was shortened by rain.
