to square off in
Martz Hall game
A pair of former Pottsville High basketball stars will be the center of attention when Martz Hall hosts the 2014 Crimson Tide Invitational on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 7 p.m.
The game will pit Philadelphia University against the Kutztown University in a men’s college basketball contest. Former Tide star Nick Schlitzer plays for Philadelphia, while Brandon Bridy starts for Kutztown.
Admission to the game is $5, with all proceeds benefitting the Pottsville boys’ basketball program. Advance tickets are available at Pottsville Area High School and the Pottsville Housing Authority building on Laurel Boulevard.

Mt. Carmel selling
advance tickets
for Friday’s clash
MOUNT CARMEL — Mount Carmel Area High School will be selling advance tickets for Friday’s Heartland Conference football game against unbeaten Southern Columbia in the athletic office during school hours today through noon Friday.
The Red Tornadoes (4-1) and Tigers (5-0) meet at 7 p.m. at Jazz Diminick Field at the MCA Silver Bowl in a battle of District 4 Class AA contenders.
Prior to the game, Mount Carmel will honor its senior football players, cheerleaders and their parents. At halftime, the Ed Romance Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame will honor the 1954 Mount Carmel team that won the Eastern Conference championship and the 1974 Lourdes squad that captured an Eastern Conference title.

unveil ’15 sked
READING — The Reading Fightin Phils announced Tuesday that Mike Becker has been hired as the club’s Executive Director of Tickets.
Becker spent 16 seasons in the Reading front office as the director of ticket operations before spending the past year working for Diamond Credit Union. The Conrad Weiser graduate will oversee season tickets and mini-plans, ticket books, single-game ticket sales and be in charge of the box office.
The Fightin Phils also released their 2015 schedule. The club’s 49th season as a Philadelphia Phillies affiliate begins with seven road games at Portland and New Hampshire.
