named track coach at Shik
SUNBURY — Schuylkill Haven Area High School and Bloomsburg University graduate Vicki Davis was hired Thursday evening as the head girls’ track and field coach at Shikellamy High School.
Davis was the 2009 Republican-Herald Track and Field Female Athlete of the Year after a standout senior season at Schuylkill Haven in which she won a District 11 Class AA title and placed seventh at states in the 800 meters.
She then went on to a standout cross country and track and field career at Bloomsburg University, also earning CoSIDA Academic All-American honors.
In cross country, Davis was a three-time NCAA Division II qualifier, earning USTFCCCA and NCAA All-American honors by placing 22nd in 2013. That same year, Davis won Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and Eastern Regional cross country titles.
In track and field, Davis was an NCAA Division II All-American in the steeplechase and 5,000 meters, placing 5th and 8th respectively at nationals in 2013. She holds four indoor and three outdoor track and field records at Bloomsburg.

to close Pius X
ALLENTOWN — Pius X Junior/Senior High School in Roseto will close at the end of the school year, the Catholic Diocese of Allentown announced Friday afternoon.
A victim of declining enrollment and increasing costs, Pius X has declined almost 43 percent since 2011 and has just 165 students in grades 7-12. Enrollment projections for next year estimated a further decline to 150 students.
The school expects to end the fiscal year with an operating debt of $1.2 million, the diocese said in a statement.
Pius X was an annual participant in the District 11 playoffs in several sports, most notably football, basketball, wrestling and baseball. The Royals captured the District 11 Class A title in football in November, and were the District 11 Class A runner-up to Mahanoy Area last February in boys’ basketball.
