ORWIGSBURG — Coy Campbell’s been chasing a goal for four years.

It took the Upper Dauphin senior less than two minutes to reach that goal Friday night at the Schuylkill League Wrestling Tournament.

With family and friends cheering him on, Campbell earned career victory No. 100 by pinning Jim Thorpe’s John Newhall in 1:53 during the quarterfinal round at Blue Mountain High School.

“It’s pretty exciting to finally get it,’’ Campbell said. “Ever since I started wrestling in high school, I wanted to get to 100 wins. The closer and closer I got, the more excited I got about it.’’

The No. 2 seed at 113 pounds, Campbell will take on North Schuylkill’s Mason Madden-Edwards in today’s semifinals. Action resumes at 11 this morning at Blue Mountain with the championship semifinals and third-round consolations. The finals for first, third and fifth places will begin at 4 p.m.

In addition to his mat time, Campbell spends a lot of hours working in the family business.

“I live on a dairy farm. ... We take the cows all over the country,’’ Campbell said.

Those cows have won numerous championships at the Schuylkill County Fair, and he even has a national title to his

credit for the excellence of his animals.

Right now, though, Campbell’s focus is on wrestling and earning a return trip to the PIAA Championships in March. Last season, Campbell finished one win short of attaining a spot on the medals stand. The next goal is clear: Earn a place on the podium.

On a smaller scale, that’s the goal today in Orwigsburg.

After Day 1, Blue Mountain leads the way with nine semifinalists. North Schuylkill and Pottsville have eight semifinalists apiece, while Panther Valley and Tri-Valley each have six.

“I’m happy with it. ... The guys are wrestling well right now,’’ Blue Mountain coach J.J. Fasnacht said.

After two consolation rounds, North Schuylkill led the team standings with 90 points, followed by Blue Mountain (82) and Pottsville (80). Tri-Valley (69) is fourth, and Panther Valley (65) rounds out the top five.

Opening night produced few upsets as all 14 top seeds moved into the semifinals. They are Jim Thorpe’s Kevan Gentile (106), Williams Valley’s Willy Girard (113), Tri-Valley’s Caleb Bordner (120), Pottsville’s Luke Gardner (126), Tri-Valley’s Sammy Hepler (132), Tamaqua’s Dylan Rynkiewicz (138), Blue Mountain’s Christian Gosch (145), Blue Mountain’s Lucas Forbes (152), Tri-Valley’s Anthony Snyder (160), Tri-Valley’s Hunter Harner (170), Lehighton’s Connor Frey (182), North Schuylkill’s Alek Hummel (195), Panther Valley’s Rian Shubeck (220) and North Schuylkill’s Nate Gadinski (285).

“You could see there are a lot of teams her with a lot of people in the semifinals,’’ Fasnacht said. “Even the guys in the wrestlebacks, we’ve got to keep getting the wins and hopefully get some bonus points along the way. It’s going to take a team effort. It can’t just be those nine (in the semifinals). It can’t be the three or four guys that make it to the finals. It’s got to be the team. That’s how we won it the last two years, everybody stepping up and everybody trying to get on that podium.’’
