H.S. WRESTLING: Hawks cap undefeated run through Berks II

WYOMISSING — Hamburg lost half of its team to graduation after the 2013-14 season.

The Hawks, though, regrouped and reloaded. Thursday night, they completed an undefeated run through Section II of the Berks League with a 46-13 victory over Wyomissing.

Hamburg (11-5, 6-0 Berks II) won 10 bouts, including falls by Sean Stanish (120), Michael Madara (132), Tyler Herber (182), Ignacio Reynoso (195) and Max Kline (220).

Today, the Hawks will return to Wyomissing for the BCIAA Team Tournament. The event was moved from Saturday in anticipation of inclement weather. Action will begin at 4:15 p.m., with three rounds needed to produce a champion.

BEDFORD — Tri-Valley’s Caleb Bordner (120) and Chase Schaeffer (145) received No. 1 seeds for the 27th annual Thomas Chevrolet Wrestling Tournament at Bedford High School.

Action begins at 10 a.m. today, with the finals scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Twenty-nine teams are entered, including the Dawgs and North Schuylkill. Eleven squads are ranked in the top 25 in the state.

Other top-six seeds for Tri-Valley include: Sammy Hepler (second at 126), Anthony Snyder (second at 152), Hunter Harner (second at 160) and Danny Scheib (second at 220).

North Schuylkill wrestlers seeded in the top six include: Owen Boyer (fifth at 106), Mason Madden-Edwards (fourth at 113), Shane McGrath (sixth at 120), Alek Hummel (second at 195), Dane Tarantelli (sixth at 220) and Nate Gadinski (second at 285).
