Jim Thorpe opens volleyball post

JIM THORPE — Jim Thorpe Area School District is accepting applications for the head girls’ volleyball coaching position.

The candidate will succeed Erin Kuhn, who directed the Olympians for three seasons and to a 23-34 record, including a 15-24 mark in Schuylkill League Division I.

Interested candidates should send applications to Lauren Kovac at 410 Center Ave., Jim Thorpe, Pa., 18229. The application deadline is April 30.

Bears take 2-0 lead on Sharks

WORCESTER, Mass. — Jim O’Brien, Chris Conner and Cameron Schilling each scored their first goals of the postseason in the second period as the Hershey Bears beat the Worcester Sharks 3-1 on Saturday night.

Hershey took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-5 AHL Eastern Conference quarterfinal series. The series shifts to Hershey’s Giant Center for Game 3 at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

In Saturday’s game, Pheonix Copley recorded 33 saves in goal for Hershey.
