Wrestlers make
all-academic list
Seven Schuylkill League wrestlers have been named to the 2014-15 Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic Team.
The team is broken down by grade.
Among seniors, Pine Grove’s Scott Werner earned a place on the first team, while Blue Mountain’s Christian Gosch and Ian Cagle gained spots on the third team.
Among juniors, Blue Mountain’s Lucas Forbes made the second team.
Three Pottsville juniors made the cut. Kolby Kleckner made the third team, while Luke Gardner and Nathan Cromyak received honorable mention.
Fire Dogs named to All-EBA team
HERSHEY — Two members of the Schuylkill Fire Dogs have been named to the All-Eastern Basketball Alliance first team.
Shannon Givens, a 5-foot-11 guard, and Cory Houser, a 6-5 forward, represent Schuylkill on the squad, led by MVP Charlie Parker of league champion Harrisburg Horizon.
Other members of the first team were York’s Kelvin Parker and Harrisburg’s Denzel Jackson.
Schuylkill’s Ethan Eichhorst, a 6-4 forward, was named to the second team. He was joined by Harrisburg’s Demond Vance, Jon Breeden and Josiah Peay and York’s Chad Tipton.
Harrisburg’s Dan Joyner was named Coach of the Year.
Penn State sets
Blue-White date
STATE COLLEGE — The 2016 date has been set for the annual Penn State Blue-White Game presented by AAA.
The Blue-White Game will be played Saturday, April 16, 2016, in Beaver Stadium.
The intra-squad scrimmage is scheduled to be an afternoon game. More details will be released after the 2015 regular season.
Worcester rolls past Hershey
HERSHEY — Chris Tierney scored the game-tying goal and picked up an assist as the Worcester Sharks beat the Hershey Bears 4-1 on Wednesday night in Game 3 at the Giant Center.
The loss extends the AHL Eastern Conference quarterfinal playoff as the Bears hold a 2-1 lead in the best-of-5 series entering Friday’s 7 p.m. game at the Giant Center.
Liam O’Brien scored Hershey’s goal.
