SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Emma Schweigert set the tone with her 20th career home run — a two-run shot in the first inning — as Schuylkill Haven defeated Nativity 4-2 on Wednesday in a Schuylkill League Division II contest.

Elizabeth Bayliff singled to set the table for Schweigert’s homer.

Nativity cut its deficit in half in the third when Rachael Souchak scored on Maddyson Melochick’s sacrifice fly, but Alyssa Gerber’s RBI single knocked in Cheyanne Reichert to restore the two-run lead.

Jocelyn Holobetz’s RBI single in the fifth pulled the Green Wave within 3-2, but Lily Leymeister tacked on an insurance run with an RBI groundout to score Sarah Personette in the sixth.

PSU-Schuykill ousted from playoffs

BOALSBURG — Penn State Hazleton scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to beat Penn State Schuylkill in the Penn State University Athletic Conference playoffs.

Penn State Schuylkill then was eliminated from the tournament with an 8-6 loss to Penn State Worthington Scranton.

Against PSU-Hazleton, Stephanie Killian had two hits and an RBI for Penn State Schuylkill, held to fivehits by winning pitcher Kayla Rhome.

PSU-Schuylkill’s Jena Leffler, named PSUAC Student-Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, scored one run.

Andrea Quillman had two triples for Penn State Hazleton.

Against PSU-Worthington Scranton, Erin Luckenbill, who homered, and Killian each had two hits for PSU-Schuylkill, which allowed six runs in the sixth for the difference.

Marcella Scheeler and Kait Boyer each doubled for the Lions.
