COAL TOWNSHIP — Haley Burd prepped for the District 11 softball playoffs in impressive fashion Friday.
The North Schuylkill freshman tossed a no-hitter and struck out 12 as the Spartans blanked Shamokin 1-0 in a non-league softball game.
Burd faced just one batter over the minimum, as the Indians had a runner reach on an error in the second inning. The right-hander was dominant thereafter, finishing with no walks.
North Schuylkill, which will be the No. 4 seed in the District 11 Class AA playoffs, scored its only run in the third inning. Tiffany Lapotsky led off with a double, was sacrificed to third by Kelly Damiter and scored on a sacrifice fly by Rachel Gricoski.
Lapotsky and Gricoski each had two hits for North Schuylkill, which finished the regular season on a five-game win streak.
