Local Wrap: Ashland rolls to District 24 win

SCHOENTOWN — Dillon O’Neill collected four hits and Tanner Walacavage tossed five shutout innings as Ashland routed Saint Clair/Port Carbon/New Philadelphia 17-3 in a District 24 Little League 10-11-year-old Tournament Pool 2 contest Monday.

Patrick Cooney hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning for Ashland, which scored in every inning and amassed 20 hits.

Walacavage entered in the second inning and quieted the SPN attack, striking out eight.

SPN tallied all of its runs in the first inning, as Aiden Elo had an RBI double and Caiden Antalosky delivered a run-scoring single.

MAHANOY CITY — Pitchers Kieran Houston and Nick Chavinsky combined for a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts to lead Saint Clair/Port Carbon/New Philadelphia past Mahanoy City in six innings.

SPN broke away from a 6-1 lead with six runs, two scoring on Cameron Strauss’ double, in the sixth.

Jacob Begansky had two hits for SPN, which was helped by 11 walks by three Mahanoy City pitchers.

ORWIGSBURG — Brady Morgan was 3-for-4 and scored three runs as Upper Dauphin County held off Orwigsburg in a Pool 4 game.

Ezriah Hite hit a solo homer in the fourth inning and scored three runs for UDC, while Cruz Banda, Nathan Cole and Isaac Hetler each had two hits. UDC built a 6-1 lead in the second inning and kept adding on.

Arjun Patel had three hits for Orwigsburg.

MINERSVILLE — John Adams and Paul Kalinock combined to strike out 10 as Minersville captured a Pool 3 win over Upper Schuylkill.

Adams struck out nine and surrendered just two hits over 4.2 innings before Kalinock finished.

Tyler Novack was 3-for-3 for Minersville, while Adams, Connor Schwalm and Brock Polinsky each added two hits. Minersville broke open a tight game by scoring four runs in both the third and fourth innings.

Markosky had two hits, including a double, for Upper Schuylkill.

ORWIGSBURG — Mike Myro’s three-run double sparked an eight-run fourth-inning outburst that lifted Orwigsburg to a Pool 1 victory over Upper Schuylkill on Sunday night.

Lorenzo Valenti hit a solo homer in the first inning for Orwigsburg, but Bill Joyce’s two-run single in the second inning gave Upper Schuylkill a 2-1 lead.

Orwigsburg regained the lead when Peyton Hashin slugged a three-run homer in the third inning, then broke it open in the fourth.

Joyce finished 3-for-3 for Upper Schuylkill, while Preston Sincavage had two singles and two RBIs for Orwigsburg. Winning pitcher Alex Tidmore struck out five of the six batters he faced over the final two innings.

FRACKVILLE — Nick Falls had a two-run home run, a triple and a single to lead Frackville past Railway Park in a five-inning Pool 3 game Sunday.

Falls’ home run clinched the victory by the 10-run rule in the fifth inning.

Owen Ewing hit a three-run double in the third inning for the winners. Harry Collins added two hits.

Pitcher Logan Burke struck out 12 in four innings for Frackville.

Kurt Sinclair had Railway Park’s lone hit.

GIRARDVILLE — Girardville broke open a tight game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to eliminate Pine Grove Red in a Schuylkill County Teener League Junior Division Tournament contest.

Chris Wolfe had two hits and Bryce Weikel and Evan Rooney doubled for No. 8 Girardville (15-8), which advances to play at top-seeded Frackville Green in today’s quarterfinals.

Bohr had three hits for No. 9 Pine Grove Red (13-10).

Branch 11

Valley Athletic 1

LLEWELLYN — Gehrig Hossler had two hits and three pitchers combined to toss a four-hitter as Branch advanced in the Junior Division playoffs with a five-inning victory.

Branch will host Hegins Black in today’s quarterfinals.

In addition to Hossler’s hits, Branch gained doubles from Scott Schwalm, Josh Halye, C.J. Stablum and Garrett Boyle, whose hit drove home the game-clinching run.

Stablum, Halye and Schwalm combined on the four-hitter.
