HS VOLLEYBALL: Blue Devils outlast Hurricanes

SHENANDOAH — Overcoming 25 kills by the visitors’ Maddie Felty, Shenandoah Valley’s girls’ volleyball team outlasted Schuylkill Haven 21-25, 25-19, 24-26, 25-21, 15-9 on Monday in a Schuylkill League Division IV match.

The Blue Devils (1-2, 1-2 D-IV) rallied from a 2-1 deficit for their first division victory in the past eight matches dating to last season.

Marcella Creasy led Shenandoah Valley with six kills, two aces and seven service points.

Alaina Demalis added 14 digs and four aces among her 16 service points. Julia Najera added five kills, two blocks and 10 digs.

For Schuylkill Haven (1-3, 1-2), Felty added two blocks and 11 service points. Ashley Ferrando had 19 assists and Tori Pascucci had 20 digs and four aces.

Shenandoah Valley won the junior varsity match, 2-1.

Minersville 3

Mahanoy Area 0

MINERSVILLE — Meg Schwalm had 19 digs and three assists to lead the Battlin’ Miners to a 25-15, 27-25, 25-10 Division IV sweep of the Golden Bears.

Alexis Hunsinger registered five kills for Minersville, while Maura Bentz added 11 assists, five digs and three kills.

Jennie Neifert had four kills and three digs and Desiree Malacusky had three kills, two digs and two blocks for Mahanoy Area.

Minersville won the JV match 2-0.

Tri-Valley 3

Millersburg 0

HEGINS — Maddie Deibert had 11 service points, eight kills and four aces to lead Tri-Valley to a 25-12, 25-10, 25-17 triumph over Millersburg in a Division III match.

Reagan Newswanger added five assists, 22 assists and 13 service points for the Dawgs (3-0, 2-0 D-III), who host division leader Halifax on Thursday.

Cat Troutman added five kills for the winners. Alyssa Connell added three kills and four service points, while Katie Kender had three aces, two blocks and eight service points.

For Millersburg (1-2, 0-2), Emily Shade had five assists and two kills, Taryn Herb added five kills and two assists, and Cheyanne Phillips had two assists.

Tri-Valley won the junior varsity match, 2-0.

Halifax 3

Williams Valley 0

HALIFAX — Kendall Lehman posted 10 kills and two aces to lead Halifax to a 25-21, 25-18, 25-18 victory over Williams Valley in a Division III match.

Jordyn Ashberry posted 17 assists and two aces for the division-leading Wildcats (4-0, 3-0 D-III).

Emily Miller and Brianna Turner each had five kills for Halifax. Morgan Calhoun added three digs.

Nativity 3, Weatherly 0

WEATHERLY — Jocelyn Holobetz posted nine kills, two aces, two digs and two assists to lead Nativity to a 25-9, 25-8, 25-19 Division IV win over Weatherly.

Ashley Strausser recorded seven kills and seven digs, and Noelle Steele had five kills, four aces, seven digs and 21 assists for the Green Wave (3-0, 3-0 D-IV).

Alexis Hartz led the Wreckers (2-3, 1-2) with four kills, two aces and six digs, while Megan McClintock finished with three aces and two blocks.

Nativity won the JV match 2-0.

Upper Dauphin 3

Shamokin 2

ELIZABETHVILLE — Laura Sweger collected 15 kills and six blocks to lead Upper Dauphin past Shamokin, 25-11, 25-20, 20-25, 20-25, 15-11 in a Twin Valley Conference match.

Sweger added five aces for the Trojans (3-1), while Madissen Miller had five kills, 19 assists and six digs. Mickayla Grow had 13 assists and four digs. Kelsey Hoffman added four kills, three blocks and 16 digs. Alexis Bowser had to aces, four kills and 10 digs, while Autumn Wise posted nine kills and two blocks.

Blue Mountain 3

Muhlenberg 0

LAURELDALE — Alex Ferrier recorded nine kills and three blocks as Blue Mountain improved to 3-0 with a 25-9, 25-19, 25-12 victory over Muhlenberg in a non-league match.

Nicole McQuillan added eight kills and two blocks, and Hannah Long had 10 digs and one ace for the Eagles.

For Muhlenberg, Ashley Kline had 14 digs and Kaleesa Bennenthum had 12 assists.

Blue Mountain won JV 2-0.

Holy Redeemer 3

Marian 1

WILKES-BARRE — Abby Stankiewitch posted 10 kills for the Fillies, but Marian fell 25-16, 19-25, 25-16, 25-17 to Holy Redeemer in a non-league match.

Stankiewitch added seven digs and four blocks for Marian (1-2), while Jasmine Mooney added six kills, 15 digs, two assists, five aces and six blocks. Courtney McCall had 15 assists and Danielle Spillman had 10 digs. Maureen Kloap posted 19 digs, two aces and three blocks.

Northwestern Lehigh 3

Jim Thorpe 0

NEW TRIPOLI — Northwestern Lehigh defeated Jim Thorpe, 25-16, 25-23, 25-21, in a non-league match.

Jim Thorpe fell to 1-2.

Northwestern Lehigh also won the junior varsity match, 2-1.

Northern Lebanon 3

Pine Grove 1

FREDERICKSBURG — Northern Lebanon defeated Pine Grove, 25-22, 25-17, 24-26, 25-19 in a non-league match.

Callie Edwards led Pine Grove with 23 assists. Alexa Kolb added three kills and two blocks.

Pine Grove won JV 2-0.
