PGC seeks instructors

for hunter-education

Experienced hunters and trappers who are interested in becoming volunteer instructors for the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s basic Hunter-Trapper Education, Successful Bowhunting, Successful Furtaking and the Successful Turkey Hunting courses are being sought by the agency.

Instructors work with other volunteer instructors and wildlife conservation officers to plan and teach classes. Applicants need not be experts in every field of hunting and trapping, and all teaching materials and detailed lesson plans are provided by the PGC.

All new instructors must have attended and completed a class, as a student, within 18 months prior to or after submitting their application. Also, applicants must pass a background check, assist with at least one student-level class and attend a new instructor training workshop before being certified.

For information about becoming an instructor, visit the agency’s website at www.pgc.state.pa.us and select “Become an HTE Instructor” on the homepage, request an application packet online or call the agency’s Hunter Education and Outreach Division at (717) 787-7015.

Elk camera now

live on PGC website

The Pennsylvania Game Commission has installed a camera on State Game Lands 311 in Elk County — in a field that is off limits to people but that typically is a hub of elk activity — as the bugling season heats up.

The camera was installed with help from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Bureau of Forestry. Video and sound from the camera are being live streamed on the Game Commission’s website, www.pgc.state.pa.us, and bull elk, along with turkeys, deer and other wildlife, already have made appearances.
