EAST STROUDSBURG — Schuylkill Haven has earned the right to play the top team in District 11 Class A once again.

Dawson Evitts scored twice for the Hurricanes in Saturday’s 2-1 quarterfinal victory over Notre Dame-East Stroudsburg to set up a meeting with No. 1 Moravian Academy in Monday’s semifinals.

Haven lost to the Lions 8-0 in last year’s championship at Northern Lehigh. They’ll be back at Northern Lehigh for Monday’s game at 7 p.m.

Evitts put No. 5 Schuylkill Haven ahead 1-0 with a shot from 30 yards in the 14th minute, then doubled the lead on a penalty kick in the 20th.

Thomas Gallagher cut the deficit in half with another PK in the 24th minute, but the fourth-seeded Spartans couldn’t get any closer.

The Hurricanes’ defense was boosted by the return of senior center back and captain Blake Handling, who missed the league playoffs after sustaining an injury against Weatherly on Oct. 13.

Cole Handling made five saves in goal for Schuylkill Haven, which joins Pine Grove, Nativity and Lehighton as the only area boys’ soccer teams to reach the District 11 semifinals.
