MVP honors
HALIFAX — Halifax senior Kendall Lehman and Upper Dauphin senior Laura Sweger share Most Valuable Player honors in girls’ volleyball in the Tri-Valley Athletic Association, the league announced Sunday.
Lehman was the lone player to rank in the TVAA’s top 10 in kills, digs, aces, assists, blocks and service points as she led the Wildcats to a 6-0 record and the league title.
A two-time all-star, Sweger led the TVAA with 92 kills, 36 aces and 65 service points. She also placed second in blocks with 24.
Lehman was joined on the TVAA first team by senior Molly Smith and sophomore Morgan Calhoun.
Joining Sweger on the first team were seniors Kelsey Hoffman and Alexis Bowser.
Millersburg senior Taryn Herb also was named to the TVAA first team for the second time.
Halifax’s Jackie Miller and Upper Dauphin’s Terry Bowser share the TVAA Coach of the Year award.
Halifax and Upper Dauphin enter the District 3 Class A Tournament quarterfinals in a doubleheader Tuesday at Northern York.

HALIFAX — Two members of Upper Dauphin’s boys’ soccer team and a girls’ soccer player from the school have been named to the Tri-Valley Athletic Association all-star rosters, the league announced Sunday.
Senior back Travis Deitrich was named to the first team while junior midfielder Mason Stoneroad was selected to the second team.
The girls’ second team includes Upper Dauphin senior midfielder Karolyn Kerwin.

Northwestern
in noon start
STATE COLLEGE — Penn State’s football team will visit Northwestern in a noon start on Saturday.
The game will be televised on ESPNU.
Penn State is 13-4 all-time against Northwestern, including 6-2 in Evanston, Illinois.
Penn State also announced tickets for the Nittany Lions’ home finale are available. Penn State hosts Michigan on Nov. 21 for Senior Day and a Penn State WhiteOut.

Lehigh Valley beats Hershey
in shootout
HERSHEY — Three goals in the shootout lifted the Lehigh Valley Phantoms to a 5-4 victory over the Hershey Bears on Sunday night at the Giant Center.
Hershey rallied from a 4-1 deficit with goals by Sean Collins, Chris Bourque and Zach Sill, who scored with 2:07 left in regulation to force a scoreless overtime.
Christian Djoos scored in the opening period for the Bears, who lost 3-2 in the shootout despite goals by Riley Barber and Collins.
