MAHANOY CITY — Dillon Kintzel came through when his Pine Grove teammates needed him the most.
Kintzel’s fall in 23 seconds at 138 pounds turned out to be the clincher as the Cardinals edged Mahanoy Area 36-33 in a non-league wrestling match Wednesday night.
Matt Lewandowski (160) and Mark Lawrence (195) recorded pins and Justin Letcavage (170) and Nolan Fegley (182) scored decisions as Mahanoy Area won the first four bouts to build an 18-0 lead.
Pine Grove stormed back behind pins from Zach Leffler (220) and E.J. Herb (285) and three forfeits to take a 30-24 lead.
Kintzel then won by fall. After the Cards forfeited at 145, Dustin Carlin avoided getting pinned in a decision loss to Mahanoy’s Colin Fegley to ice it.
