Halifax tops Millersburg in D-III clash

HALIFAX - One by one, Halifax continues to pick off its Western rivals.

Catherine Amoriello compiled 19 assists, five digs and two blocks, leading the Wildcats to a 25-19, 25-22, 25-20 Division III victory over Millersburg in a showdown of two of the division's top teams Monday.

Davia Erdman added five kills and three aces, Autumn Capouillez contributed five kills and two aces, and Brooke Grill finished with five kills for Halifax, which improved to 4-0.

Millersburg, which dropped its second match in four division outings, was led by Taryn Herb, who collected eight kills and two blocks, and Amber Roach, who finished with 19 assists and two kills.

Panther Valley 3 Lourdes 1

COAL TOWNSHIP - Richelle Van Horn collected 10 kills, 10 assists, 17 service points, three aces and two blocks as the Panthers defeated the Red Raiders 19-25, 25-13, 25-10, 25-14 in a Division II match.

Jessica Wiese added 10 kills, 11 service points, three blocks and four digs, while Kayla Kashlak finished with seven serrvice points, an ace and five digs for Panther Valley, unbeaten in the division.

Panther Valley won JV 2-0.

Pottsville 3 Jim Thorpe 0

Pottsville gained 21 assists from Hannah Corbacio and seven kills from Karlena Bartashus in its 25-9, 25-18, 25-15 Division I sweep of Jim Thorpe.

Corbacio added five aces and 21 assists for the Division I leaders. The Tide also gained two aces, two kills and five assists from Kyra Varano and two blocks from Bartashus. Kendra Boris added one ace.

Pottsville won JV 2-0.

Marian 3 Shenandoah Valley 0

SHENANDOAH - Division-leading Marian breezed to a 25-11, 25-10, 25-4 Division IV triumph over host Shenandoah Valley.

For Shenandoah Valley, sophomore Alaina Demalis had six digs and junior Lexie Grady posted three kills and three blocks.

No statistics for Marian were reported.

Marian won the JV match, 2-0.

Nativity 3 Minersville 0

MINERSVILLE - Jocelyn Holobetz produced an all-around game to lead Nativity to a 25-20, 25-9, 25-19 sweep of Minersville in a Division IV match.

Holobetz posted 18 assists, five digs, eight kills and two aces for the Green Wave. Kara Ketterer added five kills and one block and Rachel Wood posted two digs and three kills.

Meg Schwalm had 10 digs and four aces to pace Minersville. Mackenzie O'Brien added three kills and two blocks. Kelsey Somers had eight digs.

Nativity won the JV match, 2-0.

Blue Mountain 3 North Schuylkill 1

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS - Blue Mountain rallied from a 25-22 first-game defeat to sweep the host Spartans, 25-17, 25-15, 25-20 in a Division I duel.

Lexi Hammer paced the winning Eagles with 24 assists, 13 digs and five kills. Brittney Moyer added 18 kills, 15 digs and four aces while Maya Thorne had 20 digs.

North Schuylkill gained 24 digs from Maura Gownley, five kills from Renae Warcola and six blocks and four kills from Vanessa Zimmerman.

Blue Mountain won JV, 2-0.

Tri-Valley 3 Williams Valley 0

HEGINS - Alyssa Felty posted five kills to lead Tri-Valley to a 25-9, 25-19, 25-14 Division III triumph over Williams Valley.

Alexis Artz had 10 digs and Reagan Newswanger added 25 assists for the Bulldogs.

Williams Valley gained 14 digs from Kaytlyn Rabuck, two kills from Kelsey Miller and eight assists from Kendra Davis.

Tri-Valley won the JV match, 2-0.

Mahanoy Area 3 Schuylkill Haven 0

MAHANOY CITY - Brooke Kufrovich collected four kills, four aces and one block as the Golden Bears swept Schuylkill Haven 25-12, 25-23, 25-19 in a Division II match.

Christy Evancho added two blocks, one kill and one ace for Mahanoy Area. Rylee Kane posted one ace, three kills and one block, while Shaina Leshko posted two aces.

Haven won JV 2-0.
