Three area high school basketball teams will serve as top seeds in the upcoming District 11 playoffs.
In the girls' brackets, Minersville (Class AA) and Marian (A) will both be seeded first after the two met in the Schuylkill League championship Friday. For the boys, league champion Mahanoy Area (A) will also be a No. 1 seed.
After winning the girls' league championship, the Battlin' Miners (23-1) await the winner of No. 4 Pen Argyl and No. 5 Notre Dame-Green Pond in the Class AA semifinals Tuesday, Feb. 25.
The Fillies (21-2) play No. 8 Lehigh Valley Christian in the girls' Class A quarterfinals at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Martz Hall.
Mahanoy Area (22-2) must also wait to learn its opponent in the boys' Class A semis Tuesday, Feb. 25. The Golden Bears will meet No. 4 Notre Dame-East Stroudsburg or No. 5 Moravian Academy.
Divisional foes No. 3 Nativity and No. 7 Marian also appear in the boys' Class A bracket. The Hilltoppers face No. 6 Lincoln Leadership Academy at 6 p.m. Friday at Martz Hall. The Colts take on No. 2 Pius X at 6 p.m. Friday at Blue Mountain High School.
