MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Penn State Schuylkill's baseball team claimed its second victory in two days by holding off Ursinus College 4-3 in a game which closes Penn State Schuylkill's spring break trip with a 2-3 record.
Jesse Wenrick had two hits and a run for the winners, who claimed a 4-0 lead by the fourth inning before Ursinus rallied for three runs in the final three frames. Ryan King, Ryan Boyer and Billy Stokes each added a single and RBI. Brett Kreiser drove home a run and scored another for the Lions.
Jose Colon, Ralph Aurora and Tim Rafter, who tripled, each had two hits for Ursinus, which outhit PSU Schuylkill 8-5.
Bryan Dimon was the winner on the mound for the Lions by pitching shutout ball over 3.2 innings. King earned the save despite allowing two hits and two hits in his inning of work.
The Lions will return home on a roll after rallying from three straight losses to begin its spring break in South Carolina. Penn State Schuylkill was outscored 27-6 in defeats to Penn College, Genesee Community College and Lancaster Bible.
Penn State Schuylkill stopped the slide with a 10-2 win over West Virginia Wesleyan on Thursday before Friday's one-run triumph over Ursinus.
The Lions will begin a series of seven straight road games in the Northeast on Tuesday with a single game at Wilkes University. Penn State Schuylkill then will face Dickinson, Lebanon Valley and Penn State Brandywine in three doubleheaders before opening its home schedule with a doubleheader against Penn State Hazleton at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 1.
