HEGINS - Minersville qualified for the Schuylkill League baseball playoffs last season thanks to a pair of Division II victories over Tri-Valley.
It's a year later, but it seems the Miners still have the Dawgs' number.
Aaron Fritz tossed a one-hit shutout and Lukas Heffron went 2-for-4 with six RBIs as Minersville routed Tri-Valley 10-0 in five innings in the Schuylkill League Division II opener for both teams.
Heffron had a two-run double in the first, a three-run double in a four-run second and an RBI groundout as the Miners used a pair of four-run innings to take control.
Chris Leshko went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Minersville, while Fritz added a two-run double. Losing pitcher Hunter Bordner had Tri-Valley's only hit with a single.
Williams Valley 14 Mahanoy Area 2
TOWER CITY - Stephen Sedesse and Kenny Ross combined on a no-hitter, and the Vikings used a 10-run fourth inning to blow past the Golden Bears in a Division II game.
Travis Graff and Jarred Matter each had three hits for Williams Valley, while Trevor Whelski's two-run triple keyed the Vikes' massive fourth inning.
Sedesse struck out nine in four innings of work, while Ross pitched the fifth.
Schuylkill Haven 8 Jim Thorpe 7
SCHUYLKILL HAVEN - Zavier Webb's one-out double to left-center plated Vinnie Fanelli with the game-winning run as the Hurricanes outlasted the Olympians in a wild, eight-inning, non-league game.
Webb, Alec Bailey and Mike Ulsh each had two hits for Schuylkill Haven, which led 5-2 after two innings.
Sophomore Ryan McCullough had four hits for Jim Thorpe, which scored two runs in the sixth to tie it, then took a 7-5 lead on RBI hits by Ian Sterling and Dave Everitt in the seventh.
Haven tied the game with two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. In the eighth, Fanelli stroked a one-out single and stole second before Webb's hit ended it.
Tamaqua 1 Lehighton 0
LEHIGHTON - Brett Kosciolek's walk-off homer to left-center with one out in the bottom of the seventh lifted the Raiders past the Indians in a rematch of last season's District 11 Class AAA semifinal.
Matt Minchhoff and Connor Hartung combined on a six-hit shutout for Tamaqua. Brady Hydro and Vince Mele each had two hits for Lehighton.
The game was moved to Lehighton due to poor field conditions at Tamaqua.
Pine Grove 3 Riverside 2
PINE GROVE - Nick Cataldo scored on a wild pitch in the seventh inning to give Pine Grove a non-league win over Riverside at Stump Stadium.
Jed Blankenhorn and Austin Fick combined to hold the Vikings to just three hits, with Fick earning the victory with a pair of no-hit innings.
Fleetwood 7 Pottsville 3
Brandon Daubert had an RBI double as part of a two-run first inning, but the Crimson Tide couldn't hold a 3-1 lead in a non-league loss to the Tigers at Steidle Field.
Losing pitcher Eli Nabholz added a double and scored a run for Pottsville, which was hampered by four errors that helped Fleetwood score two runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings to take control.
Upper Dauphin 8 Juniata 4
MIFFLINTOWN - Mac Ney and Kyle Glouner combined to strike out 10 as Upper Dauphin beat Juniata in a Tri-Valley League contest.
Matt Deitrich went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Trojans, who had the top three batters in their lineup walk a combined nine times.
