JIM THORPE — Jim Thorpe’s girls’ volleyball team earned the first career win for head coach Victoria Nichols with a 25-11, 25-15, 25-17 non-league victory over Williams Valley (0-2) on Wednesday in the Olympians’ first match.
Erin Shigo led Jim Thorpe with six kills, four aces and 13 digs. Jillian Peterson added five kills and five aces.
Kelsey Carroll had 34 assists and Alex McGinley posted 20 digs.
For Williams Valley, Morgan Matter served five points and had three aces and fivekills. Savannah Slough added four service points, including two aces. Brittanie Rhoads had four kills and two digs.
Jim Thorpe won the JV match, 2-0.

TAMAQUA — Tamaqua took its first win of the season and first triumph for head coach Emilie Baker with a 19-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-16 triumph over Schuylkill Haven in a non-league match.
Carly Kosciolek led the Blue Raiders (1-1) with five kills, two aces, three digs and three blocks. Mackenzie McVicker added five kills and three blocks. Alexis Baddick posted three kills, four aces and two digs.
For Schuylkill Haven (1-1), Macy Dayson had eight aces and seven kills. Maddie Felty posted nine aces, three kills and three blocks. Tori Pascucci had 10 aces and five digs.
Tamaqua won the JV match 2-0.

POCONO SUMMIT — Katie Higgins posted seven aces, seven kills and two digs to lead Lehighton to a 25-8, 25-9, 25-17 sweep of Pocono Mountain West in a non-league match.
Alyssa Jordan added three aces and eight kills for the unbeaten Indians (2-0). Andrea Schafer added six kills.
Lehighton won the JV match 2-0.

FREELAND — Bouncing back from its loss to Nativity one day earlier, Mahanoy Area rallied for a 22-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-18 non-league victory over MMI.
Mychaellah Lucas led the Golden Bears with seven kills, 11 aces and eight digs. Sam Gnall added 18 assists, four aces, six digs and two kills. Desiree Malacusky had five kills and three blocks.
MMI was paced by Gabby Kupsho’s 11 kills, four aces and nine digs. Dana Varrato added 12 digs and four kills while Lauren Vanyas had 12 assists and three aces.
Mahanoy Area won the JV match 2-0.

BETHLEHEM — Maureen Kloap posted 10 kills, six digs and two blocks as Marian opened its season with a 25-19, 25-10, 25-16 non-league loss to Bethlehem Catholic.
Abby Stankiewitch added five kills and five digs while Jasmine Mooney had four kills and 10 digs. Courtney McCall posted 19 assists and seven digs.
