Special deer hunt
set for Middle Creek
Limited archery/flintlock muzzleloader hunts for antlerless deer will be held at controlled access areas of the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area, Kleinfeltersville, on Wednesday, Dec. 16, and Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016. These hunts will be held outside of any regular statewide deer season, and the only hunting occurring within the management area on these days will be by those hunters with special permits.
To participate, hunters must be properly licensed and be eligible to take an antlerless deer in Wildlife Management Unit 5B on the day they would be hunting. Hunting will be by special permit only, and 100 permits will be issued by random drawing Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 10 a.m., at the Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area visitor center for each hunting day.
Applications must be on a standard postcard and contain the hunter’s name, complete mailing address, hunting license number and antlerless deer license number for Wildlife Management Unit 5B, if applicable. One application per hunter may be submitted by mail only until Nov. 2 at: Pennsylvania Game Commission MCWMA, Box 110, Kleinfeltersville, PA 17039.
Hunters’ group
seeks donations
With archery deer season under way, those who can are asked to donate a deer this year to Hunters Sharing the Harvest. There are two registered processors in Schuylkill County: UE Butcher shop in Pottsville and Mease Meats in Pine Grove, and all donated venison stays in the county.
To donate a deer to Hunters Sharing the Harvest — there is no $15 co-pay — drop off a whole deer, or any portion of a deer, at one of the participating processors. Simply let the deer processor know to set aside a specified amount reserved for the HSH program.
